My sister’s hands

View the gallery

We’re looking for photos from people of all ages which touch on the theme of ‘My sister’s hands’ in some way, and we encourage creativity and imagination in responding to the theme. Along with your photo, we’d like a brief description of the photo and the way it relates to the theme.

You are warmly invited to contribute photos for St Luke’s Uniting Church’s first ever photo exhibition, called ‘My sister’s hands’. The title is taken from a song by Sally DeFord which describes the ways in which we receive strength, support, solace, compassion and love through female hands, our ‘sister’s’ hands, whether they are the hands of a relative, a friend or even a stranger.

Submissions may be emailed to photos@stlukes.unitingchurch.org.au with your name and the statement connecting it to the theme, as well as any title you wish to give your photo.

We’ll display all approved submissions in an online gallery, and selected photos will be printed for viewing in the Church in February 2017 (specific dates closer to the time) . You’ll find submission guidelines below, and if you’d like to know more about the theme or the exhibition, feel free to contact James Douglas on 0425 747 850 or jamesdouglas@ozemail.com.au.

Submission Guidelineschecklist by AJ Cann via flickr

  • Submitting photos is free – there is no charge to enter.
  • You may submit as many photographs as you’d like.
  • Photo submissions may be horizontally or vertically oriented, and should be at least 1024 pixels along the long edge, but no more than 10MB each. Large images will be scaled for display on the website.
  • All photos must be original, meaning you may only enter photographs that you took and for which you own the copyright.
  • If your photograph includes people, we assume you have appropriate permission to submit the photo for this exhibition – please ensure you do, especially if your photo includes children.
  • You will keep the copyright of your submitted photos at all times, on the understanding that we may make a print of your photo to display in the print exhibition. You will have the opportunity to collect this print after the exhibition closes, or you may ask us to destroy the print. While we will make reasonable efforts to prevent unauthorised downloading of photos in the online exhibition, we cannot guarantee that your images won’t be used elsewhere.
  • Your name will always be credited alongside your photo or as a small overlay in the corner of your photo.
  • By submitting a photo, you give St Luke’s Uniting Church permanent, non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to display your submitted photo on the St Luke’s website, on our Facebook page, and for promotional purposes.
  • We may crop photos for printing, or to remove borders.
  • Digital alteration is fine, as long as it isn’t used to create a derivative work from someone else’s image.
  • We plan to show your photos and descriptions online, and in a Church building with a preschool attached. Please consider this when selecting an image and any wording around your image.
