Reflection:

Letting go the familiar. Journeying in search of safety

What do we do when what is known and familiar threatens us? Where do we go?

This is a familiar theme amongst many people my age or older. They would like to stay in their own familiar surroundings but the thought of maintaining their home and garden becomes threatening. Where do we go? Most of us don’t like change! And even when the present circumstances demand change we are resistant. We find it difficult to step into unknown territory.

As Christians we should be able to accept these challenges and be willing to take a risk knowing that wherever we go, and in whatever circumstances we find ourselves, God is there with us. At this advent time let us celebrate the fact that letting go of the familiar can be confronted because we know that God is going before us
